Drake is coming home. The
Toronto-born rapper just got the green light to build a massive mansion in one
of the city’s most luxurious neighbourhoods, providing that the building plan
adheres to some minor revisions.
Planning consultant Michael
Goldberg, who represented a numbered Nova Scotia-based company that owns the
property, was met with unanimous approval as he spoke to the committee of
adjustment on Drake’s behalf at a hearing on Thursday in the North York Civic
Centre.
Drake
The two-acre plot at 21
Park Lane Circle in the Bridle Path was purchased for $6.7-million last
September.
The building plan, revealed
by The Globe and Mail last week, requires tearing down the existing property to
make room for a 21,000-square-foot mansion complete with a 44-by-94-foot
basketball court, a gym and a champagne room.
The minor revisions that
will be made include reducing the size of a terrace to 28.44 square metres from
67.3 square metres and reducing the building’s overall height.
Drake’s driveway will meet
the permitted width of nine metres before opening up to a 34-metre-wide
courtyard.
Maureen Wright, chair of
the Edward Gardens Neighbourhood Association, offered her support after hearing
the revisions, as did neighbours including packaging business titan Navin
Chandaria.
The plan for Drake’s dream
home also requires that 30 trees be cut down.
